Leveraging Your Relationship-Building Sales Skills to Accelerate your Ability to Secure Summer Staff

11/16/2021 10:00 AM
It is time to collectively demystify the word “sales” and de-escalate the emotions around classic transactional selling, so that we can refocus the relationship-building skills associated with sales toward engagement, recruitment, and stewardship of camp staff. We need to lean in, shift our perspective, and bring relational sales strategies to the forefront in order to sustain and grow our camps moving forward.

D.E.I.A Strategies to Increase Staff Recruitment and Retention Best Practices

11/17/2021 9:45 AM

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access (DEIA) is extremely important in cultures today as they seek ways to build their support team for optimal success in business. “For a company to be successful, they need to perfect the hiring process and ensure that the procedures implemented are the best possible method for the company” (Effler, 2020). A more strategic approach in the recruitment and hiring will improve retention efforts, increase employee morale, decrease mental health concerns, etc.

Secrets to Staff Acquisition, Retention and the Connection to Success

11/17/2021 9:45 AM
Year-round staffing is an increasingly challenging conundrum. Attracting, compensating, supervising, rewarding and gaining loyalty are just some of the functional issues that cannot be left to chance. Real talent is tough to find and can be equally as difficult to keep and a laissez faire approach will do little to solve the problem. If we can’t attract and retain year-round staff how can we expect seasonal staff to stay stable and return! Talent acquisition and retention are discussing often but relatively few solutions or strategies are formally adopted. This session will challenge assumptions and use practical examples help you build a recruitment and retention plan that works for your organization.

Support Versus Coddling: When to Push and When to Pull Back When Trying to Grow Our Staff

11/17/2021 9:45 AM
Mental & emotional health has been on the forefront of all of our minds. In COVID, even more so. While camp is for the camper, our staff are the ones interacting & supporting them daily. What do we do when our staff cannot hold it together? What tools do we give them to be mentally & emotionally stable so they can support our campers’ wellbeing? How do we balance providing services for our staff while also needing them to do their job? Come prepared to learn & share together.

Anne Izard

Anne Izard, Green River Preserve

I am the Director of Green River Preserve, an environmental co-ed summer camp in Western NC focusing on connecting children with nature. At the end of the day, my job is to take care of everyone- all staff and campers. In my 20 plus years of camp experience, I have learned many things- the biggest being we must change and adapt as our community grows. I am a life long-learner and camper. I believe if every child had the opportunity to attend summer camp, the world would be a better place.
