Denisha Tate-McAlister, Denisha Tate and Associates LLC

photo

Denisha is the Founder & Lead Consultant of Denisha Tate & Associates, LLC. She is an award-winning leader and author with over 20 years of executive experience and the go-to person for those up to something big!

Growing up in Chicago, she thought BIG was the only way to do everything. The skyscrapers were definitely an influence.  She grew up in a concrete jungle…honking horns, sirens, conversations all hours of the night, and all the musical noise of a big city. Denisha’s first experience of the peace and silence of nature was on a family vacation to Mississippi at age 8. She was amazed at the different sounds and smells (not all were so great). At that point she immediately fell in love with nature, ok most of nature- she and bugs never really saw eye to eye.

The little girl from the big city knew that she would never forget the peace and symphony of this new view of outdoors. She considers herself Ms. Joy, Lady Sunshine, and the most fun you can legally have!!! Isn’t that what camp feels like?

Camp continued to pay sneak visits to her life…Christian overnight camp at age 12. Family overnight fishing trip at age 20. Single’s Retreat at age 25. And then finally joining the staff of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee and meeting the team of Camp Whitcomb Mason. Yes, she came full circle to the scenery where she first fell in love with the peace and symphony of nature!

With a B.S. in Psychology, from the University of Illinois, and M.B.A. from University of Phoenix she has led departments of 120 people and systems with nearly 900 employees. She has served as Vice President, Chief Operations Officer (COO), and Chief Strategic Officer (CSO). Denisha has even been recognized by the Business Journal as a WOMAN OF INFLUENCE. But at the core of it all, Denisha is a little girl from Chicago who found her love playing in tall grass in the country.

Becoming A Change Agent

11/04/2021 11:15 AM
Change Agents are not only aware of biases in themselves and others, but they also realize the negative impacts of acting on those biases. They are willing to take action when they encounter inappropriate words or behaviors. Change agents try to make a difference when there is clear or subtle evidence of discrimination or bias. Change Agents have a high level of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) which is the capability of individuals to recognize their own emotions and those of others, discern between different feelings and label them appropriately, use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, and adjust emotions to adapt to environments.

H will focus on creating the DEI strategy and initiatives of the Boys & Girls Club federation and its multiple distinct stakeholder groups; our local organizations and their leaders and partnering with human resources to support our national staff.

H joins Boys & Girls Clubs of America from an extended career with global brands like The Coca-Cola Company, IBM, McDonald’s Corporation, and the United States Postal Service, where he served in numerous organizational culture and diversity, equity and inclusion leadership roles in Asia, Africa, Europe and North America. H is steadfast in his belief that Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion strategies improve financial performance and stimulates corporate and community excitement. This "people-first, human-centered" way of life communicates that our goal is to do good.

You will see H's fingerprints on policies that enhanced corporate culture and paved the way for laws, legislation, and organizational policies in global organizations and institutions. He collaborated with community and corporate teams to write and activate policies that advanced the access to power, privilege, and opportunity to historically disenfranchised, marginalized, underrepresented, and underserved humans with a focus on youth.

H lives in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood. He is a practitioner of total health and fitness; enjoys social media, music, and research. He is active in several local, national, and global community organizations. He is completing his BA/MA in Organizational Leadership at Roosevelt University and currently planning his doctoral studies. Jasmine's photo

Jasmine Hall is a young, Black, epidemiologist, creative and public health leader in Flint, Michigan. Jasmine studied Neuroscience and Psychology at Central Michigan University (CMU) where she was a leader, scholar, and servant. While Jasmine always had an interest in mental health, it was during the latter half of undergrad, as the Flint Water Crisis unfolded, that Jasmine first heard about public health. The crisis at home inspired her to look at grad programs that would combine her interest in mental health and neuroscience with the tools needed to help solve public health problems. Jasmine served in the Office of School-Community Partnerships  as an Americorps VISTA at Boston Public Schools while applying to the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

During her time at Harvard, Jasmine took on a research assistant position in the Department of Epidemiology, as well as leadership roles such as the Black Student Health Organization President, Harvard Graduate Student Leadership Institute Fellow, and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Fellow that would be helpful upon returning home to Flint. In 2019, Jasmine completed a Master of Science in Epidemiology with concentrations in Public Health Leadership and Population Mental Health and earned the Student Recognition Award at the Chan School as well as the inaugural Titus and Venus Legacy award for redefining what it means to be Black on Harvard’s campus.

Now, Jasmine has moved home following the Flint Water Crisis to serve through public health research (CBPR) and grassroots advocacy efforts. Outside of her official role as a researcher, she serves as a mentor for the Flint Public Health Youth Academy, the NAACP’s Health and Environmental Justice committee chair, and the Director of Wellness and Environmental Justice for Black Millennials for Flint.  In September 2021, she received a Young Gifted and Green 40 under 40 Award for Leadership and Excellence in Environmental Justice. Jasmine founded We Are Healthy and Well, to channel her creativity and knowledge into the larger community through public health leadership, yoga, and social justice efforts and will officially launch this winter. Jasmine is passionate about mental health, social justice, and collectively thriving.
