Jackie Kaminsky

Jackie, with Brandstetter Carroll, Inc., is an invaluable senior project manager, with over 15 years of experience in Camp & Retreat Center design. She actively encourages others to be involved in the planning process and helps clients see new opportunities they may not have thought of. Ms. Kaminsky is passionate about designing outdoor spaces that create a sense of community. She is a deeply respected collaborator with key camp staff professionals, stakeholders and consultants. Her responsibilities include Master Planning, Camp Design, Landscape Architecture, Graphics, Business Development and Project Management.

When it comes to “greening” your camp facility and programs it’s not always easy to know where to start. This session will provide 10 innovative tools and activities to evaluate and measure opportunities to help your camp access the environmental, educational and economic benefits of going green. From collecting and evaluating data about energy consumption to conducting a waste audit, we want to empower your team to make informed decisions about what “green actions” will most benefit your camp. You will receive write ups for each activity that will engage and empower your campers and staff in taking meaningful sustainable action at camp and when they return home.

His journey began at YMCA Camp Hanes and continued with significant roles at Catalina Island Camps and the Catalina Environmental Leadership Program. With over 20 years in the camp industry, including extensive experience in ropes course training and facilitation, Danny excels in empowering the next generation of environmental leaders. Creative Partnerships in Camp Facility Improvements

Learn how MedCamps of Louisiana has partnered with Louisiana Tech University's School of Design to improve their facilities over the past 9 years. Projects include: Larkin Gibbs Memorial Pavilion, Hero's Launch - A wheelchair accessible canoe and paddleboat launch, Chiasmus - a modified archery and paintball target range, Pisces - a 300ft floating bridge, Peregrine - a zip line launch and treehouse, Stroud Camp Store and Bell Tower - a concession stand and camp merchandise store, Hero's Origin - A multi staged curated entrance into camp, and Mosaic - a Arts & Crafts center. Caleb and Kacie will explain the origins of the partnership, how the partnership functions, and how it might be replicated at other sites.

Caleb Seney is the Executive Director of MedCamps of Louisiana, Inc - a camping program for children and young adults living with various chronic illnesses and disabilities. Caleb has been Executive Director for 20 summers and has been on staff with MedCamps for 25 summers. Caleb is a 1999 Graduate of the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a degree in Business Management. Caleb and his wife Adrian have two daughter, Audrey and Abby, and they make their home in Ruston Louisiana.

Kacie Whipple is the Camp Director for MedCamps of Louisiana. Kacie started her career at MedCamps at age 16 as a Camp Counselor. Kacie served as Camp Counselor for MedCamps from 2010- 2013. In 2014, Kacie started full time with MedCamps as their Volunteer and Events Coordinator. In 2016, Kacie was promoted to Camp Director. Kacie graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in May 2016 with her Bachelors Degree in General Studies with a concentration in Social Science, a minor in History, and a minor in Psychology. In 2019, Kacie graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe with her Masters Degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Management. Kacie lives in Monroe Louisiana with her husband Patrick.

Sessoin led by Tori Barnes: Tori Barnes-Adams has 25 years of directing day and resident camp and youth development programs with focused work on leadership & learning development, risk & crisis management, and LGBTQ+ issues. She works in the insurance industry as a risk consultant focusing on the camp, sports and outdoor recreation market. As the former Assistant Director of Accreditation with the American Camp Association, she is a strong advocate for health, safety and youth protection in camps and served on ACA’s Crisis Hotline Team. She resides in California.

Session led by Alicia Brouke: Alicia has been in the challenge course industry for more than 15 years. She has been a Challenge Course facilitator, Zip Line Guide, and Course Manager. Alicia has been working for a Professional Vendor Member of the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) for the last 8 years. She works with clients to design and install courses, annual inspection and staff training. Alicia is also a ACCT level 2 certified inspector.

This session will describe different types of modular and pre-fab cabins and other buildings that are perfect for use at overnight and day camps. Nick will show photos and discuss the processes of building the 20+ new buildings that he oversaw at his camp from 2014 through today. He will talk about what it was like to find companies to work with, what prices are like, and what it took to get these buildings built from start to finish. This session is helpful for directors and owners of all facilities experience (or none!).

Session led by Dr. Nick Teich: Dr. Nick is the founder and was the longtime director of Harbor Camps in NH. He is now an executive coach for camp directors all over North America, with a focus on helping them save stress and finances. He currently runs two groups for ACA New England: "The Business of Camp" and "MESH (mental, emotional, and social health) Systems." During his tenure at Harbor Camps, he planned and oversaw the building of over 20 new structures and program areas.
