Social Emotional Learning at Summer Camp
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is a tool employed by all youth development professionals. How we as an industry reduce disparities between school and outside school time is a large part of our success as summer camps. SEL is always evolving and it has always been a part of summer camp in an organic way. How do we as industry leaders bridge the gap between schools, where SEL is not a standardized part of a curriculum, and camp where it is weaved into everything we do? Within camp SEL may mean different things based on your particular program, so how do we streamline leadership teams to have a common goal when it comes to SEL and your campers and staff? Are we SOL without intentional SEL?
