In this interactive webinar devoted to character continues the conversation from Dr. Angus Fletcher’s keynote. Together, participants will learn about revisiting how courage is the first foundational virtue to begin building character. He'll then move on to humility, exploring how these two virtues together lay the groundwork for character building in the brain.
The webinar will include presentation followed by Q&A so that Angus can answer any questions and will discuss ways to best implement this knowledge with your specific campers this summer.
Participants are encouraged to enroll in The Science of Cultivating Character course before attending this webinar.
Learner Outcomes:
- What courage is and how it works in the brain.
- What humility is and how it works in the brain.
- How courage and humility work together to prime your brain for developing additional character traits.
Presenter Bio:
Angus Fletcher is Professor of Story Science at Ohio State's Project Narrative. His research into cultivating emotional resilience, creativity, and commonsense has been endorsed by the National Council of Teachers of English and has been called "mind-blowing" by Malcolm Gladwell, "life-changing" by Brené Brown, and "polymathic" by Martin Seligman. His most recent books are Wonderworks (Simon and Schuster, 2021), Storythinking (Columbia University Press, 2023), and Primal Intelligence (Penguin Random House, 2025).
